Philippines: Typhoon Kalmagi Leaves 66 Dead, 26 Missing

(November 5, 2025)

Typhoon Kalmagi has left at least 66 people dead and 26 others missing in the central Philippines, local officials announced Wednesday.

Widespread flooding caused by the typhoon trapped many residents on their rooftops and swept away dozens of cars in a province still recovering from a previous devastating earthquake.

Among the victims were six people killed when a Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed in the southern province of Agusan del Sur while en route to deliver humanitarian aid to typhoon-affected areas.

The typhoon, which was spotted Wednesday morning over the coastal waters of Linapacan town in western Palawan province, was packing winds of 120 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 150 kilometers per hour and was expected to move towards the South China Sea.
